A good, balanced diet is always recommended to stay fit and healthy. To fight and get over any disorder, a proper diet is essential.

There are lots of diet fads and nutrient enriched-supplements available to us. Perhaps, trying to eat according to a strict diet plan is not the best for your body. The key is coming up with a diet that is perfect for you. How many meals to eat? What number of portions are okay? How much of carbohydrates to include?

There is no universal answer to the questions. It all revolves around what your body needs. However, there are some recommended diet regimes that might help.

What to include in everyday food?

  1. Almost half our calories need to come from carbohydrates from food like rice, chappatis, bread, millets, oats etc. Whole grains are considered much healthier than refined grains like white rice. It is these foods that keep away the hunger pangs and give you energy.
  2. About 30 to 35 percent of food should be proteins. We get that from pulses, eggs, milk, white meat etc. Proteins are important for not only muscle build up, but also our cell and tissues.
  3. This is surprising, nevertheless, we need at least 20 percent of our food to have fats in them, especially healthy fats like omega 3 fatty acids. Switching between different oils, ghee and butter helps keep a balance. Also, opt for unrefined oils.
  4. Vitamin and minerals are needs in small amounts. However, their deficiency does cause a lot of problems. Make sure to eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts etc. Fish, meat and milk are also great sources of these nutrients, as are green vegetables.
  5. Fiber is another essential component of a meal. It improves digestion.
  6. Taking at least the recommended 6 to 8 glasses of water is important to remain hydrated and let the body function normally. The water helps to refresh us and remove the toxins from out body.


Never skip meals and make sure to eat healthy and hearty. Don’t overeat, or eat less. Eat as mush as your body demands and not as food fads dictate.

Our traditional meals have all the nutrients in adequate amounts. Do not let the world of junk food tempt you to stray off the health route. Above all, never stop taking a food item, like ghee for example, as you believe it to be unhealthy or fattening. Taking a small amount of any food won’t do your body harm, but excluding a food group will.

While, these diet facts are important, it is far more important to listen to the demands of your body. If a certain nutrient levels goes down in your body, there are signs to show for it. Keep a lookout for any deficiency symptoms.
